Following reports that Korean idols were spotted visiting nightlife bars in Itaewon in April, netizens are now demanding that BTS member Jungkook be stripped from his Order of Cultural Merit medal.

On the 18th, on the bulletin board of the National Petition of the Blue House, a petition was posted for this concern to be heard.

The petition further states, “BTS’s Jeon Jungkook has been seen to visit Itaewon’s nightlife with three idols with whom he is acquainted while countless people are trying to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a disregard for the efforts of the public and public officials who have tried to overcome the problem so far, and it does not match the purpose of the medal awarded to those with outstanding achievements that contributed to the national development.”

It was further stated that the acts of these idols disregard social distancing and do not keep social distance are hinder the development of the country.

Reports first noted idols visiting the Itaewon Club in Yongsan-gu, Seoul on the night of the 25th to 26th of last month.

On the 18th, it was revealed that these included BTS’s Jungkook, Astro’s Cha Eun-woo, NCT’s Jaehyun, and SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu to be those idols.

A representative for BTS stated that, “Jungkook visited a restaurant and bar in Itaewon with friends in the evening on the 25th of last month. After the visit, there were no symptoms of COVID-19 such as coughing and fever. He was tested and turned to be negative.” It was also said that Jungkook is deeply reflecting on the fact that he has not faithfully participating in all efforts to keep social distance.

BTS received the award in 2018 in recognition of its contribution to the development of popular culture and arts especially in their promotion overseas.
